GNL Zamba Vows to Reawaken Ugandan Hip-Hop with His Return

In a powerful statement to his fans, Ugandan hip hop legend GNL Zamba, born Ernest Nsimbi, has announced his plans to return to Uganda from the USA.

Known for bringing rap and Lugaflow, a unique fusion of Luganda language and Hip-Hop, to the mainstream, GNL Zamba is now looking to breathe new life into the culture he helped build.

With a transformative vision, the founder and CEO of the independent Hip-Hop record label Baboon Forest Entertainment aims to reignite the genre, utilising its potential to inspire and uplift the next generation.

GNL Zamba’s message was direct: “Dear Forest, I am buying a one way ticket to Uganda. It is to time to give the culture new life, Direction and Vision. I observe that Hiphop is way too underutilized, misoverstood, misanalyzed, criticized, mismanaged yet it has the potential to uplift, educate, communicate and change the trajectory of the youth and communities opening up infinite opportunities. I am coming home hope to see you all soon. Together Tunawakilisha #EnsiYaffe.”

The rapper, whose name “GNL” stands for “Greatness with No Limits,” has always believed in the power of Hip-Hop as a tool for social change.

His contributions over the years have cemented his role as a pioneer in Ugandan music, challenging societal norms and pushing for a platform that speaks to the struggles and aspirations of Uganda’s youth.

With this return, GNL Zamba hopes to address what he sees as a critical gap in how Hip-Hop has been perceived and managed in Uganda.

He is set on redefining its role, focusing on its capacity to educate, motivate, and provide new opportunities for young Ugandans.
