GNL Zamba Explains Why Most Ugandan Musicians Abandon Their Music Careers After Settling Abroad
GNL Zamba has opened up about why many Ugandan musicians who relocate to Europe or other Western countries end up giving up on their music careers.
According to the Lugaflow rapper, the biggest reason is the low financial return from music in Uganda.
“Ugandan music does not pay that much. It pays, but it does not pay that much,” he said.
He noted that while many artistes are passionate, the lack of support and poor earnings eventually force them to explore better-paying opportunities once they settle abroad.
“You find that even the highest-paid musician in Uganda earns an amount that someone abroad can easily make through other jobs. So when an artiste moves abroad, they begin to question why they are suffering with music, especially when they are not even receiving the kind of support they need,” he explained.
GNL, who spent some time living in the United States, considers himself lucky to have stayed true to his passion.
Despite everything, he continued to pursue music, entertainment, and production.
