GNL Zamba Shares the Truth Behind His Break from Major Music Releases

Ugandan hip-hop artiste Ernest Nsimbi, mostly known as GNL Zamba, recently opened up about his approach to releasing music, addressing why he sometimes goes years between projects.

Comparing himself to icons like Kendrick Lamar, Dr. Dre, Rick Ross, and J. Cole, Zamba noted that even though fans see these artistes frequently online, they often take extended breaks, sometimes three years or more, between releases.

Reflecting on his four-year gap since his last project, Zamba acknowledged that while he has released singles, he knows his fans expect more consistent releases.

“People are used to the GNL who’s always prolific,” he admitted.

However, he emphasized that his hiatus was intentional, a period dedicated to personal growth.

“If you ask me what I have been doing, I will tell you: I have been growing,” he said.

For Zamba, the time away was about being both a student and a fan of life.

He spent these years observing, reflecting, and learning from the best, seeing growth as a necessary part of his artistic journey.

He believes that every piece of music should have a purpose.

“If your voice is not saying anything, then you are just putting out hot garbage,” he said, reinforcing his commitment to delivering meaningful music when the time feels right.
