Govt Releases UGX 10Bn for Promoters, Abtex Says He Is Final Signatory
Uganda’s event promotion industry has received a major boost after leading promoter Abbey Musinguzi, popularly known as Abtex, confirmed that government has released over UGX 10 billion to support event organisers.
In a video making rounds online, the Abtex Promotions boss revealed that the money was deposited into a SACCO set up for promoters, a move expected to inject fresh life into the events business.
But it was his next statement that quickly turned heads.
Abtex disclosed that he holds the final signatory authority on the account, meaning the money cannot be accessed without his approval.
In the SACCO, I put the final signature. All the money in the account is under my supervisory.
According to Abtex, the funding is meant to help promoters expand their work, stage bigger concerts, and rebuild the events sector after years of financial strain.
The move also fits into government’s wider push to support the creative economy under the Financial Year 2025/26 budget, with renewed focus on entertainment and cultural industries.
While many promoters have welcomed the money as a long-awaited breakthrough, Abtex’s remarks about supervisory control have sparked debate, with some demanding clearer accountability and fair access to the funds.
