Grace Nakimera Rejects Pressure to Look Like Other Born-Again Christians
Grace Nakimera has revealed that some of her toughest criticism came after she became a born-again Christian.
The now gospel singer said much of that criticism centered on her appearance and the way she presented herself.
She rejected the idea that becoming a born-again Christian meant conforming to other people’s expectations.
Those who say that born-agains are supposed to look a certain way, you are not the one who made me born again. I am a born again christian whom God loves and he loves me the way I am. Do not judge me by my jewellery or big wigs.
The criticism went beyond her appearance.
She said some people also questioned whether she had genuinely embraced her faith, but she never felt the need to prove herself to anyone.
I do not like people that pretend they are holy. It is not a good thing at all. Personally, when I got into the church, they judged me. They thought I was not serious but I am not there to audition for you. Do not put me on a pedestal. I do not like people who judge others, I do not take disrespect and I do not want you to think that just because I am a born again, there is a form I am supposed to come in because you will be surprised.
Grace Nakimera also had a message for fellow gospel artists and believers facing similar criticism.
They should live their lives, love themselves and do what pleases them. People should calm down.
