Gravity Omutujju and Lil Pazo Criticized by Katikiro Mayiga for Vulgar Music
The Prime Minister of the Buganda Kingdom, Charles Peter Mayiga, during a meeting with Kadongo Kamu artist Lord Fred Sebatta, who had paid a courtesy visit to Bulange Mengo ahead of his concert on December 13, expressed concerns about the current direction of Ugandan music, particularly focusing on young artists like Gravity Omutujju and Lil Pazo.
While acknowledging the talent of these artists, Mayiga expressed disappointment over the explicit nature of some of their songs.
He encouraged them, along with other musicians, to explore meaningful and impactful themes, highlighting the abundance of positive topics available to address.
He further urged musicians to use their God-given talents responsibly by creating music that inspires and uplifts society, rather than squandering their potential on vulgar content.
The Katikiro specifically called on Buganda Kingdom media outlets, such as BBS and CBS, to refrain from promoting vulgar music, citing Gravity Omutujju’s work as an example.
He advised young musicians to avoid vulgarity if they wish to build sustainable and respectable careers.
Mayiga also took a moment to commend Lydia Jazmine, who was present during his remarks, for creating music that resonates with audiences without offending them.
Additionally, he celebrated the contributions of Lord Fred Sebatta, praising his timeless and meaningful songs that continue to inspire listeners.
