How Kataleya & Kandle Are Changing the Way Artistes Collaborate

In Uganda’s music industry, it is almost an unwritten rule that the artiste who asks for a collaboration usually ends up doing all the heavy lifting when it comes to promoting the song.

But singing duo Kataleya & Kandle are flipping that script.

Unlike many artistes who treat features as side projects, the bubbly pair give every song they are part of their full attention, whether it is theirs or not.

While appearing on Western UG Media TV, Kataleya opened up about why they go the extra mile.

Once we become part of a project, we treat it as our own. If the song does not do well, it reflects on everyone involved, whether they own it or not. We have put so much into building our brand that we cannot take any project lightly. Whenever we feature on a song, we promote it with the same energy as our own, and if that overshadows the main artiste, that is their problem. We always put in the work to make sure the music reaches the audience, because as musicians, that is what we are meant to do.

Kandle also got candid about how their early struggles in the industry shaped their attitude toward collaborations.

Another thing is that all of those experiences happened to us. We would go to ask for a collaboration and someone would ask for a lot of money, refuse, or be impossible to reach. We do not want to put anyone else through the same because we know how it feels.

The duo’s approach is refreshing in an industry where ego often gets in the way of teamwork.

By giving their all to every project they touch, Kataleya & Kandle are setting a new standard built on genuine love for music.
