How Love Led to Ykee Benda’s Hit Song ‘Singa’
People often do extraordinary things for love, and sometimes, these actions are the craziest things they will ever do.
For musicians, some of the best songs are born from real-life experiences, especially when it comes to matters of the heart.
Ugandan singer Ykee Benda, whose real name is Wycliffe Tugume, is no exception.
In a recent media interview, he shared that the craziest thing he has ever done for love was recording the song “Singa” for a girl he deeply loved.
He believes the song became a hit because he poured his heart and soul into it, and it resonated with his personal emotions.
For him, the more real and honest the song is, the better it connects with listeners.
In 2018, it was reported that Singa, which translates to “If Only” in English, is based on a true story about an Algerian girl Ykee met while he was still in university.
Although they shared a strong bond, their love could not continue because the girl’s father did not approve of her marrying an Ugandan man.
