How Spyro Turned His Father’s Doubts Into Success
Nigerian singer Oludipe David, known professionally as Spyro, has revealed his long struggle with fear of failure and how his father’s harsh words shaped his life.
He said that as a child, his father often criticised him sharply.
Over time, those words left a lasting mark, making him believe he was destined to fail.
The fear followed him through school.
Poor grades in secondary school shook his confidence, and even after gaining university admission, he doubted whether he could complete his degree.
At one point, he feared he would die poor.
In a conversation with veteran media personality Frank Edoho, Spyro admitted his father’s criticism was one of his biggest challenges. He said it deeply affected his mindset.
His turning point came when he deepened his relationship with God.
Before his breakthrough, he was close to giving up music and had begun working in interior design.
Everything changed when his song “Who Is Your Guy” went viral in 2022.
The remix with Tiwa Savage in 2023 elevated his fame even further.
Later that year, the track won Best Collaboration at the 16th Headies Awards, marking a defining moment in his career and a triumph over the fears that once held him back.
