Idris Elba Receives Knighthood for Services to Young People

Hollywood and British TV star Idris Elba has been knighted in the New Year Honours.

The 53-year-old Hackney-born actor can now proudly use the title Sir Idris.

Elba first gained worldwide fame as the cunning Stringer Bell in “The Wire” and later as the intense DCI John Luther in “Luther.”

In 2025, he took on major roles as the British Prime Minister in “Heads of State” and the President of the United States in “A House of Dynamite.”

He also voices Solomon Reed in the “Cyberpunk 2077” expansion, “Phantom Liberty.”

Off screen, Elba has made a major impact through the Elba Hope Foundation.

The charity works to empower young people, improve education, and promote youth advocacy and sustainable development.

He has also been outspoken about knife crime, advocating for practical support and alternatives to violence for young people.

Elba said he hopes his knighthood will highlight the importance of supporting youth and inspire positive change in communities across the UK.
