“If I Had Married for Travel Documents, Would I Still Be Here?” Coopy Bly Fires Back
Ugandan gospel singer Coopy Bly, born Emmanuel Edwin Kusaasira, has spoken out to dismiss claims that he married his wife, Anne Marie, for the sake of obtaining foreign travel documents.
In Uganda, there is a common stereotype that when Africans marry white partners, the motivation is often tied to gaining citizenship or residency abroad.
But Coopy Bly is pushing back against that narrative, calling it irrelevant to his own relationship.
In a recent interview with Sanyuka TV, the “Sidda Mukyalo” singer addressed the speculation by asking, “If I had married her for travel documents, would I still be here?”
He went on to explain that he was already an established musician with international exposure before they met.
“By the time I met my wife, I was already Coopy Bly and had traveled abroad extensively,” he said.
The couple first crossed paths in 2013 through their shared involvement in community work and ministry.
Since then, the two have built a life anchored in faith, love, and shared purpose.
They are set to celebrate their 9th wedding anniversary in November this year.
