“If We Feared Him, Would We Have Cut His Dreadlocks?” Police Dismiss Claims of Fearing Alien Skin
Speaking to Sanyuka TV, Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango addressed several pressing issues, including the ongoing controversy surrounding the artiste Alien Skin, violent incidents at local events, and the growing concern of musicians moving with gangs, locally known as Egaali.
Regarding the claim that the police fear Alien Skin, Onyango made it clear that the force had already acted against the artiste. In fact, they had arrested him, disproving the rumors that the police are intimidated by him.
“Who arrested and took Alien Skin to Luzira? The police,” Onyango emphasized.
“If the police feared Alien Skin as the public claims, would we have captured him, taken him to Luzira Prison, and even cut off his dreadlocks? No. The police do not fear Alien Skin,” he stressed.
Onyango also addressed the recent violent incidents at the Enkuuka festival and urged the public to report such cases formally so investigations can proceed properly.
“We cannot act on hearsay or rumors. If there is a case against Alien Skin, it needs to be reported to the police, and we will investigate to determine the truth,” Onyango explained.
The spokesperson also spoke about the clash between Alien Skin’s gang and Pallaso’s gang at the Empele festival, calling for event promoters to step up their game in ensuring safety at such events.
“Promoters need to take responsibility for the safety of all performers. They should ensure artists with ongoing conflicts do not perform at the same time and should be in position to stop any artiste from interfering with another artiste’s performance on stage,” Onyango said.
On a more legal note, Onyango confirmed that Alien Skin had filed a case of aggravated robbery and malicious damage against Pallaso at Katwe Police Station.
Onyango also noted that the police are still waiting for Pallaso to file a case against Alien Skin regarding the incident at the Empele festival in Buloba.
“We are still waiting for Pallaso to file a case against Alien Skin. We are waiting for him to either go to Buloba or Wakiso to file the case. If he does not want to go to Buloba, he can go to the main station in Wakiso,” he noted.
Onyango believes that musicians associating with gangs damage their reputations, public image, and ultimately their careers.
He explained that while artistes may require their own security, there is no need for large groups of people.
“Five people are enough to provide security for an artiste. This could include a DJ, treasurer, security personnel, manager, and secretary. Gangs are no longer allowed; we have banned them,” he confirmed.
