‘It Is Impossible to Pick the Best’ — A Pass on Ugandan Musicians

As each year comes to an end, fans and industry insiders often debate who the best musician of the year is.

From social media polls to award shows, these discussions are a regular feature in Uganda’s music scene.

However, singer A Pass believes these comparisons are unnecessary.

Speaking to Sanyuka Uncut, he explained that the music industry is too big to crown just one artiste as “better” than the others.

I do not think that there is an artiste who is better than another because the industry is big and has many musicians. There are so many musicians doing well. Kapeke is doing well, Joshua Baraka is doing well, Elijah Kitaka is doing well, even Winnie Nwagi, even though you are not hearing new music, she is doing well.

He pointed out that success is widespread across the country’s music scene, not just concentrated on a few names.

There are so many artistes in Uganda who are doing well. It is not just one or two. Even I am doing well. Maurice Kirya, BigTril, and many others are doing well, so I cannot single out one.

A Pass also highlighted the unique qualities every artist brings to the table.

No one is going to listen to Joshua Baraka alone, and they are not going to listen to A Pass alone. People have to listen to other artistes because each one brings a different flavor.

In conclusion, he stressed that no single musician can be considered better than another.

So, I cannot say that any artiste is better than another. There is no musician who can be better than the other. It is not possible.

A Pass’s perspective reminds fans and critics alike that Uganda’s music scene is rich and diverse.

Instead of ranking musicians, he encourages everyone to appreciate the wide variety of talent in the industry.
