“It Will Take You More Than Eight Albums to Go International,” Ziza Bafana Tells Bebe Cool
Ugandan dancehall singer Ziza Bafana has launched a strong critique against music veteran Bebe Cool for changing his musical sound and direction.
Bebe Cool’s latest album, Break The Chains, released on May 30, marks a shift from his traditional reggae and ragga style to Afro inspired sounds.
Speaking on Flexx, Ziza Bafana said Bebe Cool has turned away from the very style that made him unique, arguing that such a move only undermines his decades-long efforts.
He is one of the people who have failed to create a legacy. You are doing reggae, we see you are doing it well, so stick to it and build a legacy. But you have abandoned it and want to compete with a younger artiste who has come doing band… now you also want to do it.
The “Pomini” star also questioned Bebe Cool’s ambition of going international, noting that global success requires a deliberate and carefully built foundation.
You have reached a time when you want to go international, yet the build you started with is not international. You should have laid that foundation from the very beginning. Do not think it is just going to happen overnight. You will first need to release more than eight albums, even if you have all the genuises, until the new roots for an international push take hold.
Even though Bebe Cool says Ziza Bafana’s criticism never reaches him, Ziza insists he is not speaking to get a reaction.
