Jalade-Ekeinde Explains Why Afrobeats Is Ahead of Nollywood

Veteran Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has shared her view on why Nigerian music has reached global audiences faster than the country’s film industry.

Speaking on the Afropolitan Podcast, the actress pointed to funding as the major factor behind the difference between Afrobeats and Nollywood.

According to her, creating music often requires less financial investment compared with producing a movie. She explained that films usually involve large teams and higher production costs.

The actress also noted that many musicians today can create songs and share them easily with fans online, sometimes using simple and creative ideas that quickly attract attention.

She added that film production is different because even a modest project still requires many people working together, which increases costs.

Omotola believes stronger funding could help Nollywood compete more effectively on the global stage.
