Jeremy Renner Talks About Hallucinating Jamie Foxx After Near-Death Accident
Jeremy Renner, who plays Hawkeye in Marvel’s Avengers, has revealed shocking details about his recovery after his devastating snowplow accident in 2023.
In his new memoir titled My Next Breath, the 54-year-old actor opened up about how pain medications made him hallucinate full conversations with actor Jamie Foxx, who was not actually there.

Renner said he was on a mix of opioids and benzos that caused him to talk to his bedroom curtains and imagine spending time with Foxx.
He even believed they went snowmobiling together, even though he was stuck in bed and there was no snow in Southern California.
The actor also felt emotionally connected to Foxx, who had stepped out of the public eye around the same time due to a serious medical condition that was later revealed to be a stroke caused by a brain bleed.
Renner’s family often heard him talking during these hallucinations and believed the drugs were causing it.
They would joke that maybe his medications needed to be reduced so they would not lose him.

Although doctors advised against it, Renner later decided to stop taking the medications completely because he hated how they made him feel.
He described the withdrawal as one of the hardest parts of his recovery.
For about 36 hours, he cried nonstop, shook uncontrollably, and struggled to calm himself down.
He says that after quitting the medication and getting through the worst part, his healing process became much smoother.

Renner was run over by a 14,000-pound snowplow on New Year’s Day and nearly died.
He broke more than 30 bones, lost six quarts of blood, and his heart rate dropped so low that paramedics considered him basically dead.
