Joeboy Admits He Rooted for Davido But Says Tyla Deserved Grammy

Joeboy has come out in support of South African singer Tyla following the debate around her Grammy victory.

The Nigerian artiste said the Push 2 Start singer earned the award despite criticism that followed the announcement earlier this year.

Tyla won the Best African Music Performance category at the 2026 Grammys, beating nominees Davido, Omah Lay, Wizkid, Ayra Starr and Burna Boy.

Her win triggered heated reactions online, with some fans arguing that a Nigerian artist should have taken the prize.

Speaking in an interview with Jay On Air, Joeboy admitted he had personally hoped Davido would win the category.

Still, he said Tyla’s success should be respected.

He described her as a talented artist who has worked hard for her achievements.

Joeboy also revealed that Tyla is among the artistes he would like to collaborate with in the future.

Personally, I was rooting for Davido to win the Best African Music Performance category at the 2026 Grammys, but you cannot take it away from Tyla. She is an amazing artiste whether you accept it or not. She really put in the work. People can be angry all they want but she deserved the Grammy win. I cannot fault her triumph
