Joeboy Claims Afrobeats Is Finding Its Roots Again

Afrobeats is changing, and Joeboy says the shift is already happening.

The Nigerian singer made the statement during his sold out Valentine’s Day concert in Lagos.

Midway through his set, he told fans the genre is going through a purge and returning to real music.

According to him, gimmicks are fading and weaker records no longer have space in the industry.

In the early 2020s, Afrobeats mixed heavily with Amapiano, hip-hop and R&B.

While the fusion helped the sound travel globally, some fans felt it moved too far from its roots.

Now, more artistes are leaning back into traditional Afrobeats elements. Joeboy says he can feel the difference.
