John Blaq Cautions Musicians Against Rushing Into Music Deals
John Blaq is opening up about the harsh realities of the music business.
The “Makanika” hitmaker learned the hard way after a bitter fallout with his former management, Black Market Records.
The dispute reportedly saw him lose access to his YouTube channel, social media accounts, and even the rights to some of his early hits.
That experience, he says, changed how he now approaches the industry.
Speaking on Galaxy TV, John Blaq warned that many artistes focus so much on chasing a hit that they ignore the details of the contracts they sign.
In most cases, we musicians get excited and want to land a hit song, and we forget that many things can come after that. There are many things we may not know as musicians, and you find some people taking advantage of that to manipulate you until you are left with nothing.

He explained that the real work begins before the song drops, especially when it comes to contracts and digital control.
Before you think about a song, there are many things you have to consider. The contracts you sign, your logins, you have to make sure you have control over your own platforms. Because after the hit, you will start asking, who has my social media? Who runs my YouTube?
According to him, these are conversations artistes must have early, not years later when damage may already be done.
You have to sit down with the management you are working with and agree on these things from the start, so you do not get a rude awakening three or four years later when you cannot reverse or fix certain things.
He ended with a firm reminder that patience can save a career.
My fellow musicians, let us not rush. Let us take things slowly. Enticing deals may come your way, but you have to take your time before signing. Do your research. Consult different people and lawyers. Do not just sign things.
