Joshua Baraka Slams Daddy Andre’s Songwriting, Says It Is Not Exceptional
The debate over the best songwriters in Uganda has recently been a hot topic in the industry, even sparking an exchange between singers Dokta Brain and Daddy Andre.
In a recent media interview, singer Joshua Baraka shared his personal list of standout songwriters, including both living and deceased artistes.
Among those he mentioned were the late Mozey Radio, the late Elly Wamala, the late Paulo Kafeero, Maddox, and Dokta Brain, while also acknowledging that many other deserving names exist.
When the conversation shifted to Daddy Andre’s songwriting abilities, Baraka recognized that the producer and singer does write songs but believes there are other writers who stand out more.
“When we are talking about memorable lines, the depth of the lyrics, and storytelling, at the end of the day, he (Andre) is writing, and it is good writing, but in my books I would not be like this is exceptional,” he explained.
Baraka made it clear that his comments are not meant as disrespect to Andre, but rather as an honest reflection of his personal list of top songwriters.
“It is not disrespect to him. He is an amazing artiste, and he does his thing, but you have asked me for my best writers,” he concluded.
