Kapeke Calls “Morocco Remix” Normal, Says He Cannot Work With Shenseea
Ugandan singer Kapeke has weighed in on the “Morocco Remix,” a collaboration between Joshua Baraka and Jamaican singer Shenseea.
Speaking during an appearance on Rewind, the “Kaba” hitmaker first questioned the choice of Shenseea for the collaboration.
Shenseea? Okay. I will not say she is not a big artiste. She is dope. But doing a song with Shenseea? Honestly? It seems like I understand the Ugandan market better than most people.
He said international collaborations are normal, and many Ugandan artistes have already done them.
Others have already done such songs. Kenzo has done a song with Patoranking. Fik has sung such songs. He [Joshua Baraka] is not the first. It is normal, and that is what he is supposed to do. It is like me doing a song with Kenzo or Sheebah, that is what I am supposed to do. That is how we stay relevant.
Kapeke then made it clear that his approach to music is different, stressing that he is selective about who he works with.
He added that even if the opportunity came, he would not collaborate with Shenseea.
I cannot work with her. Joshua Baraka works with everyone. Me, I pick and choose. I do not do songs with just anyone. Shenseea? No, bro
Kapeke also questioned the value of such international collaborations, saying they do not always benefit local artistes.
He concluded that he would only consider such projects if he is fully in control of the process.
Even our elders in the industry who worked with them did not gain much. I would only collaborate with an international artiste when it is my decision and I am in control of the process. The problem with international artistes is that they want to decide who to work with and how the work is done. They spot a trending song and then jump onto it.
