As conversations around the Copyright and Neighbouring Rights (Amendment) Bill, 2025 continue, singer Kapeke has shared his thoughts.

Uganda’s Parliament passed the bill on March 17, 2026, and it now awaits assent from President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

Kapeke Copyright

While speaking on Spark TV, Kapeke, born Derrick Nsubuga, admitted he does not know much about the bill but says he has heard it aims to help artistes.

He added that he is not sure how it works or whether it benefits all musicians, noting he thought it helps a certain category of artistes.

Even so, Kapeke said he would welcome it if it also benefits him.

I hear about the copyright, but if it helps, let it help. I do not know much about it. I hear it is meant to help us, but I thought it helps a certain category of musicians. But if it helps me as well, Mashallah.

His remarks come as discussions about the bill’s implementation and regulations continue across the entertainment industry.
