Kapeke Rejects Songwriters, Stands Firm on ‘Kimalufa’ Sound
Ugandan singer Kapeke has opened up about his music, making it clear that he has no interest in using songwriters.
The “Kaba” star told Rewind he prefers writing his own lyrics and believes he still has enough creativity to keep going without outside help.
They do not write for me. I do not even want anyone to write for me. Am I lame? Me, whom God gave a head? If I ever feel like I am out of words, I will find another way out… But my mind is still sharp, and I still have a lot of words.
Kapeke also responded to critics urging him to tone down his self-styled sound, Kimalufa, and explore other love-centered genres.
He insisted that while he can sing melodies, love songs are not his thing and do not match his identity.
You want me to sing like Victor Ruz or Vyroota? I can actually sing melodies, but I do not like love songs because there is a way they change me… yet I am “Kimalufa,” and everything I do is “Kimalufa.”
In short, Kapeke is not switching lanes.
He is writing his own music and keeping Kimalufa alive.
