Prominent media personality Isaac Katende, popularly known as Kasuku, has come to the defense of singer Joseph Mayanja, alias Jose Chameleone, following recent criticism from his son, Abba Marcus Mayanja, regarding the family’s alleged neglect and dysfunctionality.

In his remarks, Kasuku dismissed claims made by Abba, emphasising that Chameleone provided for his children and offered them a privileged upbringing.

“Just because their mother was babysitting and the father was busy working, the boy now thinks Chameleone was never present,” Kasuku stated.

“He (Chameleone) paid their school fees, gave them a life in Muyenga where only the rich live and ensured they had almost everything they needed.”

Kasuku further criticized Abba’s sentiments, calling them unfair and misplaced.

He argued that Chameleone’s struggles, including his current health condition, stemmed from the pressure and misunderstandings within the family. “These things frustrate men,” he said.

He added that words allegedly influenced by Chameleone’s ex-wife, Daniella Atim, could have contributed to the rift between the singer and his children.

The media personality’s comments come in response to Abba’s viral TikTok video, where he accused his grandparents and his father’s close friends of irresponsibility and neglect.

Abba, while confirming that his father suffers from acute pancreatitis a condition often linked to prolonged heavy drinking expressed anger over the lack of concern shown towards Chameleone’s well-being.

Abba’s frustrations also extended to his uncles’ deaths, claiming his grandparents’ negligence contributed to their demise.

AK47, one of Chameleone’s younger brothers, passed away in 2012, while Humphrey Mayanja succumbed to cancer earlier this year.

However, Kasuku defended Chameleone’s role as a father and provider, accusing Abba of failing to recognize the sacrifices his father made.

“When you ask him what his mother was doing, he can’t even explain,” Kasuku remarked.

Chameleone, a celebrated Ugandan music icon, was recently hospitalized in Kampala amid deteriorating health, raising concerns among his fans and family.

Reports indicate he is battling both acute pancreatitis and liver disease.

The Mayanja family, while renowned for their musical success, has often been under public scrutiny for issues relating to alcohol abuse and violence.

Chameleone’s ex-wife, Atim, has previously blamed her mother-in-law for shielding her sons from accountability, worsening their behavioral struggles.
