Katikkiro Mayiga Applauds Spice Diana for Decency at Her Just Concluded Concert

Singer Spice Diana, real name Namukwaya Hajara Diana, recently celebrated a decade in the music industry with a successful concert at the Kampala Serena Hotel.

The event attracted a large crowd, including notable figures such as the Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga.

In a recent media interview, the Katikkiro shared his thoughts on the concert, specifically commenting on Spice Diana’s dress code.

He noted that while musicians often wear distinctive outfits on stage, Spice Diana’s attires were both entertaining and appropriate, leaving no room for concerns about indecency.

The Katikkiro emphasized that musicians are expected to showcase their artistry through their clothing, but it is equally important for their attire to remain respectful and within acceptable standards.

He stressed that Spice Diana’s outfits complemented the energy of her performances without crossing any lines of decency.

The Katikkiro’s observations come amid growing concerns about vulgarity and indecency in the music industry.

Toward the end of 2024, a crackdown on these issues led to the Uganda National Cultural Centre (UNCC) blacklisting entertainers like Gravity Omutujju and Lil Pazo for vulgarity in their songs, as well as Shakira Shakiraa, Gloria Bugie, and dancer Ritah Dancehall for indecency.

The crackdown also saw the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) issuing a directive to broadcasters, online content providers, and social media users in Uganda, urging them to stop promoting and sharing songs and programs considered vulgar and obscene.

The Katikkiro also took the opportunity to caution singers Lil Pazo and Gravity Omutujju, who had been accused of promoting vulgar songs as a means to gain popularity.

He urged the youth to discover their talents in the right way, avoid disrespecting others, and not spoil the minds of the younger generation.
