Khalifa AgaNaga Calls Out Young Artistes for Chasing Virality Over Quality
Ugandan singer Khalifa AgaNaga has shared his take on the country’s music industry in 2025, praising emerging talent while highlighting areas that need improvement.
In an interview with BTM, Khalifa acknowledged that young artistes have dominated the spotlight this year, bringing fresh energy to the industry.
Musically, the young artistes have really done well. I am proud of Joshua Baraka, Kapeke, Gloria Bugie, Elijha Kitaka, Dax Vibes, and Ava Peace.
However, his praise came with some criticism.
Khalifa noted that most of them have had only one hit this year and have not released much material.
I credit them, but they have not done enough. They all have just one hit song each, and I do not know why. We want them to flood the industry and make the comeptition tight. One releases a song, another releases a song, and so on. They need to stop putting out demos.
The issue, he added, goes beyond just consistency.
According to him, production quality and lyrical depth have suffered as some artistes prioritize quick viral moments over crafting solid music.
There is also something missing in terms of production and lyrics. Artistes do not give music the time it deserves, just because they know they can put a few words on TikTok. They have killed creativity. That is why no songs are crossing borders. We do not even have a song making it to Kenya, with the exception of Joshua Baraka’s tracks.
Khalifa believes this lack of depth is a key reason why Ugandan music struggles to make an impact beyond its borders.
While talent is undeniable, he urges artistes to focus on quality, creativity, and consistent output if the industry is to compete regionally and internationally.
