Laika on the Pros and Cons of Being a Signed Artiste vs Independent

Laika, the voice behind the hit Believer, has opened up about why she chose to leave her management and take full control of her music career.

The Ugandan songbird admitted that being signed does have its perks, making life a lot easier for artistes.

Management handles many tasks, sets directions, and takes pressure off, allowing musicians to focus on creating music.

When you are under management, they baby you. They tell you what to do, and you do not have a lot to do. You do not handle many things alone.

But independence, while exciting, comes with its own set of challenges.

Laika explained to Rewind that going solo means carrying every responsibility on your own.

When you are an independent artiste, you may get to enjoy your profits alone, but it can be a bit hectic because you are doing everything by yourself.

The decision to go independent, she revealed, was also about values and compatibility.

We are people of different values, character, and background, so sometimes people do not work together easily, and it is better to stay just friends with people than work with them yet you do not get along well. So that is why I chose to be independent.

To finish, Laika made it clear that she is open to management opportunities that will support her growth.

I am open to management. If there is any company or people that would like to manage an artiste, I am open. If there is someone who wants to manage me, they must aim to elevate me, not derail my career.
