Leap Year Babies Find Fun Ways to Celebrate in 2026

As 2026 unfolds as a non leap year between 2024 and 2028, people born on February 29 once again face the quirky challenge of celebrating a birthday that technically does not exist on the calendar.

Often referred to as leaplings, these individuals, estimated at about one in every 1,461 people worldwide, mark their special day on either February 28, March 1, or sometimes both.

While the calendar skips February 29 this year, age continues to advance annually like everyone else’s.

In some places, legal systems even clarify the matter.

For example, in the US state of Nevada, the law recognizes February 28 as the official birthday in non leap years for those born on February 29.

For many leaplings, the rare birthday becomes a fun talking point rather than a frustration.

Actress Suanne Braun is among well known February 29 babies who embrace the uniqueness of the date.

Social media this year has also seen proud parents of leap year children sharing creative ways they are doubling the celebrations, hosting early parties on February 28 and counting down to midnight to welcome March 1 with cheers and cake.

Though February 29 appears only once every four years, leaplings say the rarity adds to the excitement.

In non leap years like 2026, they adapt, celebrate twice if they wish, and continue aging just like everyone else, proof that sometimes, missing a date can make it even more special.
