Lil Pazo on Why Not Every Ugandan Musician Needs International Recognition

Singer Lil Pazo has spoken out against the growing belief that all Ugandan musicians should aim for international recognition.

Speaking during an appearance on Vvaawo Mpitewo on Sanyuka TV, Lil Pazo argued that both local and international artists can succeed on their own terms.

He emphasized that profitability and impact are not limited to going global.

Using singer Joshua Baraka, arguably Uganda’s biggest musical export at the moment, as an example, Lil Pazo claimed that while Baraka may have international appeal, he might not match his local influence.

Go to Lwamaggwa, Lumbugu, or even here in Butambala and advertise me alongside Joshua Baraka, and then let us see whose show attracts a bigger crowd.

Lil Pazo concluded by expressing frustration with the pressure to go international, pointing out that his music is tailored for a local audience and that he does not sing in English.
