Lil Pazo Seeks Dialogue with Katikkiro Mayiga Over Vulgar Music Concerns
By Muhamadi Matovu
Musician Yasin Mukasa, popularly known as Lil Pazo, has taken steps to address concerns raised about vulgar lyrics in his music.
He recently visited Bulange Mengo, where he submitted a formal letter requesting a meeting with the Katikkiro of Buganda, Peter Mayiga, to address the issue and find a way forward.
The visit follows recent remarks by the Katikkiro, warning artistes against producing content deemed inappropriate and disrespectful to cultural values.
In a media interview shortly after the visit, he expressed his willingness to apologize for any shortcomings.
This development comes amid growing criticism of explicit themes in Ugandan music.
The Uganda National Cultural Centre (UNCC), led by Executive Director Phina Mugerwa (Masanyalaze), recently summoned several artistes, including Lil Pazo, to address the issue.
Songs such as Gravity Omutujju’s Okwepicha, Enyama, and Doozi, alongside Lil Pazo’s Enkudi and Ensuju, were highlighted as examples of content undermining Uganda’s cultural integrity.
UNCC has emphasized the need for music to align with Ugandan norms and cultural values.
Lil Pazo’s effort to meet with the Katikkiro marks a significant step towards resolving these concerns and fostering a commitment to promoting cultural heritage through music.
