Lionel Richie Set for Climate Change Concert in Gulu

Uganda’s State Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Hon. Norbert Mao, has announced a major climate change concert scheduled for June at Kaunda Grounds in Gulu, which is expected to feature American music icon Lionel Richie.

The concert is aimed at raising awareness about the environmental dangers caused by human activities and the urgent need to protect the planet’s natural resources.

Mao explained, during a press conference at the Uganda Media Centre on February 11, that the event will focus on educating both Ugandans and the global community about the destructive impacts of climate change.

Through music, the concert will highlight how these issues have altered weather patterns, with artistes playing a key role in conveying the importance of taking action to safeguard the environment.

Lionel Richie, famous for hits like “Hello” and “All Night Long,” will headline the event, joined by other performers such as Sister Sledge, known for songs like “Frankie,” and “He’s the Greatest Dancer.”

In addition to raising awareness, the concert will provide Ugandan artistes with opportunities to showcase their talents while supporting local businesses in expanding their markets.

Beyond climate change awareness, the concert will also promote Uganda as a tourism destination, boosting the country’s economic growth and global visibility.
