Lwasa Appears in Court Over UGX 23 Million Debt Dispute
Former Masaka tycoon Emmanuel Lwasa on March 12 appeared in court over a debt dispute involving UGX 23 million.
The case was heard at the Makindye Chief Magistrate’s Court after businessman Robert Basanji sought legal action to recover the money.
During the proceedings, Lwasa asked the court to allow him to settle the matter by paying UGX 16 million instead of the original UGX 23 million.
Basanji accepted the proposal but asked the court to ensure enforcement if the payment is not made.
At the same time, Lwasa is also facing another legal challenge from his own family members.
They accuse him of selling land that he had reportedly purchased for his wife and relatives.
Lwasa, however, denies the claim and maintains that the property he sold was his personal land.
He says he is ready to appear before court on the scheduled date to address the allegations.
