Lydia Jazmine Explains Why Albums Should Be Carefully Planned

Ugandan songbird Lydia Jazmine recently shared the story behind her album “The One and Only” during a stop on The Choice Live.

While in Rwanda to shoot the music video for “True Love,” her collaboration with Rwandan singer Bwiza, Jazmine revealed how much time, planning, and effort went into the project.

Creating an album, she explained, takes more than simply gathering songs.

Many artistes, according to her, just compile tracks from the studio and call it an album, but that approach is, in her view, wrong.

I think an album really needs time. I think most people do albums… You know, we are artistes. Every day we go to the studio and make music. Some people just wake up and say, ‘I want to release an album,’ and then they just go and choose from the songs they already have in the studio. I think that is quite wrong, because an album needs to be something you have planned, put on the table, then ask yourself what you need, what you have to do, what the final product is, and who the audience is.

Jazmine went on to describe how she carefully assembled her team of writers and producers to bring her vision to life.

There are a lot of things to think about and put together. So, I started planning it two years ago, putting everything together bit by bit. I got songs here and there and brought in the best writers from in and out of Uganda. I got the producers together… The album has over seven producers.

Reflecting on the final product, she said:

I think it was an amazing body of work that took me some time but was worth it.
