Lydia Jazmine Reveals How Her Collaboration with Chameleone Happened
Ugandan singer Lydia Jazmine has shared the story behind her collaboration “Sure” with music legend Jose Chameleone, a track that has quickly become one of the standout songs on her debut album, “The One and Only.”
She revealed the details during an interview on Royal FM in Kigali, where she had gone to shoot a music video for her song with Rwandan singer Bwiza, “True Love.”
Jazmine explained that the collaboration with Chameleone unfolded without any prior planning.
The album is a project of over two years. That song is actually the oldest on the album. I did it two years ago, and it was actually an unplanned project. I went to the studio one night, and Jose Chameleone was coming in next after me. When he heard me recording inside… you know, for him, he just comes in with the vibe… then he went behind the microphone, freestyled, and put in the verse. He asked, ‘Do you like the verse? Do you think you can include me on the song?’ and I was like, what? Are you asking me? Hell yes.
She went on to highlight just how hard it is to get Chameleone to feature on a song, adding that she did not have to look for him like other people do.
Where would I have gotten him? I did not even look for him or call him or do anything like other people do. Getting him is not that easy, by the way.
Speaking about the impact of the track, Jazmine said it has been nothing short of amazing.
She revealed that the song has become one of the best-selling tracks on her album and also holds a very special place in her heart.
Just like that, it happened. Back home, I think it is the best-selling song on the album. It is also one of my favorites because it means a lot. Chameleone has been in the industry since I was born. I have grown up watching him, and being able to share a stage with him on a song for my first album is special. Many people who have even been with him from that era have not worked with him.
