M.I Opens Up About Handling ‘Broke Shaming’

Nigerian rapper M.I has opened up about why he does not feel the need to live a flashy lifestyle.

The “One Naira” star says he trained himself to handle being “broke shamed,” so he would not overspend just to impress fans.

M.I explained that many celebrities go broke trying to meet people’s expectations.

Fans often judge stars by the cars they drive or the lifestyle they display.

That pressure can push artistes to spend beyond their means.

When I understood that people in Nigeria tend to broke shame celebrities, I had to decide whether I would let that have power over me. If you do not deal with it, it will control you. If you are not comfortable with the fact that some fans may broke shame you for driving a car they think is below your level, you will keep adjusting to their expectations. That is how you go broke. You go broke trying to match what people expect.

He said it took time to mentally prepare himself to ignore such judgments and focus on his own financial well-being.

He also noted that even celebrities who once flew private jets twenty years ago are no longer as wealthy today.

By refusing to bow to public pressure, M.I stays true to his path and avoids unnecessary financial stress.
