The Majority Of Ugandan Musicians Are Mediocre – A Pass
Singer Alexander Bagonza, widely known by his stage name A Pass, is once again speaking out about Ugandan musicians and the state of the local music industry.
In a recent media interview, A Pass shared his belief that the majority of Ugandan musicians are mediocre, though he clarified that his comments are not meant to disrespect anyone.
He argued that many artistes do not invest enough time in honing their craft and are more focused on what they can gain from music rather than contributing to its growth.
“They care about what they can get from music. They do not care about doing something for music,” he said.
While other musicians might rush to organize concerts after releasing a hit song, A Pass revealed that he could have already held shows for some of his popular tracks like “Didadada,” “Tuli Kubigere,” and “Wuyo” to make money, but he did not, because for him, music is not all about the money.
A Pass has long been critical of the lack of depth and creativity in Ugandan music.
In the past, he even referred to Ugandan musicians as “dead people walking,” explaining that the main issue lies not in the music itself but in the musicians.
