Makoma Returns to Uganda After 25 Years for Kololo Airstrip Concert
Family gospel group Makoma, originally from the Democratic Republic of the Congo and based in the Netherlands, has returned to Uganda 25 years after first performing in the country, ahead of a concert scheduled for Friday, March 6, 2026, at Kololo Independence Grounds.
Speaking during a press conference in Kampala, Natalie Makoma, one of the group’s lead voices, shared her excitement about reconnecting with Ugandan fans.
Introducing herself warmly, the singer revealed that she has even adopted a Ugandan name.
My name is Natalie Makoma, but my new Ugandan name is Natalia.
For Natalie, the return carries deep meaning.
She recalled that Makoma first performed in Kampala 25 years ago during the early years of their musical journey.
She also remembered performing in Mbale, moments that remain special to her.
According to her, Uganda holds a unique place in Makoma’s history because it was the first English speaking African country where the group began performing, a milestone that helped expand their reach across the region.
Now, after more than two decades, the group’s return to Kampala is both a reunion with fans and a celebration of memories that stretch back many years.
