Mariah Carey’s Christmas Classic Returns to No. 1 and Makes Hot 100 History
Mariah Carey has once again reclaimed the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 with her holiday classic, “All I Want for Christmas Is You.”
As it has for more than five consecutive years, the song has returned to number one just as the Christmas season reaches its peak, reaffirming its status as the most successful festive hit in United States chart history.
With this latest surge, the song has now spent 76 nonconsecutive weeks on the Hot 100. That remarkable run spans nearly 25 years, dating back to its first chart appearance in 2000, despite being released in 1994.
The milestone places the track joint ninth among the longest charting songs in Hot 100 history, tying with Jason Mraz’s “I’m Yours.”
What makes the achievement even more impressive is that many songs with longer runs benefited from the streaming era, while Carey’s hit has sustained its success across multiple generations and music formats.
The story may not be finished yet. The song is expected to continue climbing in the coming weeks. If it charts again next week, it will tie Dua Lipa’s “Levitating” and Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song” at 77 weeks.
With two tracking periods remaining before Christmas Day, the festive anthem could extend its run even further.
By the end of the season, it may reach 78 or even 79 weeks, pushing it higher among the longest running hits of all time and further cementing its place in music history.
