Mariam Ndagire Urges Government to Set Up Special Rehab Centre for Artistes
Mariam Ndagire has raised concern over the growing problem of drug addiction among artists, saying many are suffering in silence because they fear seeking help.
During an appearance on Sanyuka Uncut, the veteran singer and filmmaker appealed directly to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to support the creation of a rehabilitation centre specifically for artistes.
According to her, the stigma around public rehab facilities makes it difficult for creatives to come forward.
I appeal to the President that many artistes are affected by drugs and fear going to public rehabilitation centres. If the government can provide funds to establish a special centre, artistes will be treated safely and without fear.
Beyond the drug issue, Ndagire also addressed what she sees as a growing problem of rising artistes claiming status they have not earned.
She urged them to respect industry veterans and seek guidance instead of rushing to declare themselves seniors.
Many rising stars are wrongly claiming seniority over their senior artistes. That is not right. Work hard, stop that habit, and reach out to senior artistes for guidance.
Ndagire also spoke about her role in nurturing talent, saying she has made herself available to support others in both music and film.
She stressed that mentorship remains important for the industry’s growth.
I thank God that I have tried my best to create and support other artistes in music and film. Whenever an artist needs guidance, they can come to me freely. My doors are always open.
From rehab appeals to mentoring young talent, Ndagire shows she is still shaping the industry she helped build.
