Maureen Nantume Highlights “Age” as a Key Factor in Gang-Related Violence Among Musicians
Singer Maureen Nantume has voiced her concerns over the increasing trend of musicians surrounding themselves with gangs (Egaali), stating that it is negatively impacting the music industry.
She criticized the chaos and violence these groups often bring, which she believes tarnishes the public’s perception of artistes.
Referring to recent clashes between musicians Alien Skin and Pallaso, Nantume described the situation as deeply worrying.
According to her, such incidents discourage fans from attending events due to safety concerns.
“Chaos and violence at events,” she noted, “hurt not just the artistes involved but the entire industry, as fewer people feel safe attending shows.”
Nantume attributed this behavior among musicians to age, suggesting that with time, many of them might outgrow the need for these gangs (Egaali) and adopt more responsible and lawful behavior.
“What they need is someone to sit them down and talk to them,” she said, emphasizing the importance of dialogue over violence.
She called on experienced elders within and outside the industry to guide these artistes towards the right path.
Despite the growing trend of gang-related violence among musicians, Nantume remains optimistic.
She concluded by describing Alien Skin and Pallaso as talented, influential, and reasonable individuals who could resolve their differences through dialogue if provided with proper support and guidance.
