Maurice Kirya Remembers DJ Bush Baby as a Champion of Ugandan Music
The Ugandan entertainment fraternity is still coming to terms with the loss of one of its most influential media personalities, Michael Owor, popularly known as DJ Bush Baby.
As tributes continue to pour in, celebrated soul singer Maurice Kirya has joined many others in remembering the man who played a pivotal role in shaping the sound of Ugandan music over the years.
In an emotional post shared on his social media platforms, Kirya honoured DJ Bush Baby’s life and legacy with heartfelt words.
“Rest in peace DJ Bush Baby. Thank you for your work and all the joy you brought into our lives,” he wrote.
He went on to acknowledge DJ Bush Baby’s lasting impact on the Ugandan music scene and his efforts in pushing it beyond national borders.
“Thanks for promoting Ugandan music during your run at East Africa Radio. You will be missed, brother,” he added.
DJ Bush Baby was found dead in his studio in Entebbe on June 5, 2025.
He is remembered not only for his revolutionary contributions to media but also for his strong commitment to uplifting local talent.
His time at East Africa Radio proved especially influential, providing Ugandan artistes with a rare platform for cross-border exposure at a time when such opportunities were scarce.
Preparations are underway for his burial at his ancestral home in Tororo, Magola Pajangango, off Iyolwa Road, scheduled for Sunday, June 8.
Though Bush Baby is gone, his legacy will continue to echo through Uganda’s entertainment industry for generations to come.
