Meet Taremwa Paul: The Musician Who Chose Passion Over Profession

If you ever find yourself in Mbarara City, especially in a village called Alliance, you might hear the name Taremwa Paul—an artist who followed his heart and turned music into his life’s calling.

Paul’s journey isn’t an ordinary one. He was born in Kakoba, Mbarara City, to a family full of purpose. His late father, Felix Basiime, was a respected journalist, editor, and writer, known for his brilliant mind and love for books. Sadly, Paul lost him during the second phase of COVID-19 in 2021. His mother, Kyomuhendo Anitah Peninah, is a dedicated nurse, someone who’s always cared for others.

You might be surprised to know that Paul didn’t start out in the music industry. He studied a Bachelor’s in Accounting at Mbarara University of Science and Technology and is now pursuing his MBA from the same institution. Even though he trained as an accountant and completed his internship, Paul made a brave decision. He chose music over numbers—not because he couldn’t do accounting, but because music needed all of him: his heart, mind, and energy.

Paul’s music journey began in a band, and because of his talent, people started booking him for performances. When the world slowed down during COVID, Paul’s music career took off. “It was a blessing in disguise,” he says. More gigs started coming in, and it became clear that music wasn’t just a side interest—it was his path.

He believes in faith, values, and identity. Paul doesn’t just sing; he tells stories, carries culture, and encourages growth through his art. At one point in his life, he cut off his dreadlocks—not because of pressure, but as a personal act of transformation. To him, growth is about making bold choices and standing by them.

His efforts haven’t gone unnoticed. Paul is proud to be the first artist to pull a massive crowd at University Inn, a moment that humbled and encouraged him deeply. He says he doesn’t take that kind of support for granted.

With a keen eye for talent, Paul’s management team has played a big role in shaping his journey. He’s seen how artists receive even more love when they collaborate with musicians from other regions. “It adds depth and richness to the music,” he says. One of his notable collaborations has been with Jamal, a talented songwriter. Paul is excited about what they created together.

Now based in Mbarara, Paul continues to focus on his craft while being a proud father to two beautiful daughters. His story is proof that when you follow your passion with faith, identity, and effort, you’re bound to reap what you sow.
