Miria Matembe Sounds Alarm on Social Media Recklessness Among Young Women
Outspoken human rights advocate and lawyer, Miria Matembe, expressed her concern about the direction today’s generation is heading, particularly with the rise of social media, during her appearance on Next Radio’s Nightshift.
According to Matembe, many young women are exposing themselves and engaging in reckless behavior online, all in the name of seeking attention.
She pointed out a disturbing trend where, after facing negative consequences, these individuals return to social media to vent.
For Matembe, this reflects a serious problem in the generation. “There are timeless and ethical values that should never be abandoned,” she stressed, emphasizing that these values are meant to guide us across all generations.
Matembe believes that one of the ways to stay grounded is by building a family early, provided one is mature enough.
She advocates for getting married and having children while still young, as long as individuals have reached a level of emotional and mental readiness.
Drawing from biblical origins, Matembe explained that men were created from mud, while women were created from a rib.
She interprets this as a sign that women are made from a stronger, more resilient material, making them truly special in society.
Her message to young women also extends to relationships, especially cohabitation.
She warned women not to let property be registered solely in the man’s name or even in both names if they are also contributing. “Men can be selfish,” Matembe cautioned, advising women to protect their interests in case they are left with nothing after a breakup.
Looking at the broader picture, Matembe observed that today’s generation is lost, particularly in their disrespect for the elderly.
She believes that young people are quick to attack older generations, failing to realise that they cannot succeed without the wisdom and experience of their elders.
