Motsepe Steps In After Burna Boy Is Held by Customs Over Jewellery

Burna Boy’s trip to Morocco for an AFCON show reportedly came with unexpected drama at the airport.

CAF President Patrice Motsepe revealed that the Grammy-winning Nigerian star was stopped by customs officers on arrival, while heading to Rabat to headline the TotalEnergies AFCON Fan Zone concert.

According to Motsepe, the issue was linked to Burna Boy’s gold jewellery, which drew attention from customs officials.

He said he later stepped in and the situation was settled without further trouble.

Burna Boy went on to perform at the Rabat concert on January 16, as planned.

The event also featured performances from Ghana’s Stonebwoy and Moroccan stars Stormy and Jaylann.

The AFCON 2025 concluded with Senegal defeating hosts Morocco 1-0 in extra time on Sunday, January 18, 2026.
