Mun G Explains Why Chasing Hit Songs Can Lead Artistes to ‘Sell Their Soul’

Rapper Mun G, real name Mungi Emmanuel Matovu, opened up about why many musicians are choosing to sing vulgar songs instead of making meaningful music.

According to Mun G, the struggle to get a hit song pushes even talented artistes to follow trends they would not normally consider.

He explained that when an artiste goes for a long time without a hit, they start feeling frustrated.

At the same time, those making vulgar music are getting all the attention and dominating the airwaves.

Seeing this, some musicians begin to believe that the only way to succeed is to do the same. Mun G calls this “selling your soul.”

To him, selling your soul means abandoning what you stand for and following what the industry demands just to fit in.

Instead of being patient and trusting their style, some musicians take shortcuts by doing whatever is trending, even when they know it is not right.

The rapper believes the biggest problem is that many musicians lack patience.

Instead of believing in their own craft and waiting for the right moment, they rush to copy what is working for others.

This, he says, is why the music industry is filled with songs that lack meaning.
