Mun G Insists International Stardom Starts with Local Success
The word “international” has been thrown around a lot lately, especially by critics who claim Ugandan musicians are merely local acts that have yet to break into the global scene.
But is that the full picture?
Rapper Mun G recently sat down with Baboon Forest Entertainment to share his perspective on what it truly means to become international.
He explained that many critics misunderstand the term simply because they are not closely involved in the music industry.
People say that because they are not in the music industry or do not follow it closely. International artists are those who are really big at home. You understand? Your own industry pushes you so that people know you.
Mun G emphasized that being international means representing your country with pride.
An international artiste has a country. You cannot just say ‘international,’ no. Jay Z is from the USA. Wizkid is from Nigeria. You represent your country.
For Mun G, the success of individual artists is tied to the growth of the entire industry.
An industry grows as a whole, and the top level, the crème de la crème, is what people think is international.
Above all, he stressed that true international success requires staying true to your roots.
You cannot run away from your roots because if you do that, you will lack identity. You have to have home support. It is a matter of the industry in general.
That is Mun G’s take on what true international success means.
