Musicians Petition Parliament Over Copyright Reform

By Brian Macona

On August 13, a group of top musicians, including Sheebah, Pallaso, Lilian Mbabazi, Coxo Finger, and Ray Signature, met with lawmakers at Parliament to push for a stronger and more effective copyright system.

The artistes raised concerns that despite their hard work and creativity, they receive very little in return for their contributions.

They called on Parliament to take immediate action to protect their rights and improve earnings across the music industry.

The meeting reflects growing calls within Uganda’s music sector for reforms that ensure artists are fairly compensated and their creative efforts are properly valued.
