Naava Grey Speaks on Her Sony Music Partnership and the Freedom Behind Her Music Releases

When asked in a media interview why she does not release music as often and whether she blames Sony Music Entertainment for it, singer Naava Grey, born Naava Zziwa, had a clear response.

“Why should I blame Sony, really? Sony was just a partnership. We signed for distribution and publishing of just one song, and that was Sokalami. Every country in Africa got Sokalami the day it was released and premiered,” she explained.

She went on to highlight the benefits of the partnership, revealing that Sony also facilitated collaborations with other African artistes whenever needed.

Naava also shared that she had a positive experience with Sony and did not encounter any issues during their partnership.

Furthermore, she clarified that her contract with Sony was not one of those restrictive deals where the label takes control of everything.

“I was warned not to sign fully with them,” she revealed.

Naava Grey’s words show a deep appreciation for the support Sony offered while also making it clear that her release schedule is a matter of personal choice and creative control.
