Navio Finally Reveals Who Writes His Music

Ugandan hip-hop star Navio has opened up about his songwriting process and the collaborators who help shape his music.

Speaking to Evening Rush Reloaded, Navio explained that he writes all his English lyrics himself but consults others when working in indigenous languages or Swahili.

He named writers such as Unique, Oman Rafiki, and Sheena Skies, highlighting how trusted collaborators add depth to his work.

Of course! I write for myself. I am an emcee. Anything you hear in English, yes. But when it comes to Luganda, Swahili, there you have to consult. I think the two guys who I have trusted with that one are Unqiue and Yese Oman Rafiki. Sheena Skies once or twice, but the singles did not come out. So yeah, those are the writers I have worked with before.

In recent disputes over songwriting, Navio found himself in a back-and-forth with GNL Zamba.

The LugaFlow rapper claimed that he wrote Navio’s hit songs “Bugumu” and “Saloon.”

Navio dismissed the claims as false, insisting that GNL only wrote his own verses and not the entire songs as alleged.

I do not think that is correct. First of all, he has never written any songs for me. When he features on a song, he writes his own lyrics. For Bugumu, I think he had two lines on it. That is what he rapped. The rest was Navio.
