Netflix and the Sussexes Shine Spotlight on Masaka Kids in Upcoming Documentary
Uganda’s global export, Masaka Kids Africana, are about to dance their way into Netflix history.
Archewell Productions, a media company founded by Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, has announced Masaka Kids: A Rhythm Within, a moving new documentary short set right in the heart of the Masaka region.
Produced in association with Campfire Studios and Wontanara Productions, the film promises to go far beyond the viral YouTube clips that made the children international sensations.
The documentary is set to tell a deeper, more intimate story of how an orphanage in Masaka, in a community still feeling the impact of the HIV/AIDs crisis, has become a place of hope, joy and unstoppable rhythm.
The logline says it best: Masaka Kids: A Rhythm Within.
“This goes beyond the viral videos to reveal a vibrant, one-of-a-kind community where orphaned children transform hardship into joy, dancing their way toward healing, belonging and the promise of a brighter future.”
The documentary is directed by David Vieira Lopez and Moses Bwayo, with Prince Harry and Meghan serving as producers alongside Ross M. Dinerstein, Rebecca Evans, Geeta Gandbhir and Chanel Pysnik.
This is part of Archewell Productions’ extended multi-year partnership with Netflix, which has already delivered hit series like Harry and Meghan, Heart of Invictus and the recent culinary favourite With Love, Meghan.
Netflix says the couple’s projects consistently resonate with global audiences, and Uganda’s Masaka Kids are expected to do the same.
The release date has not been confirmed yet, but fans can expect the film later this year.
For the Masaka Kids, this marks yet another stage in their remarkable journey.
From dancing in their small community to captivating the world, and now to starring in a Netflix production backed by royalty.
One thing is for sure: when it lands, Uganda will be dancing along.
